Good homeschooling memes are good for the soul! Laughter is a must in homeschooling. Not just for your kids, but for yourself. Laughter helps to heal the tensions of the day and it is always what brings me back to the reality that being together and enjoying each other is what matters the most.Â
These homeschooling memes touch on some of my favorite homeschooling struggles! Let’s dive in!
10 Homeschooling Memes to Make You Laugh
While we highly value natural learning and holistic education, I wouldn’t say that we ascribe to one specific method around here. Whenever people ask, I feel like these are my thought exactly. I can’t always explain what we are doing, and sometimes I question what I am doing, but I Â feel like on most days it’s going really well, haha! If you’re needing a book to guide you in your homeschooling journey, this was one of the best books that gave me the confidence to homeschool, despite the moments I wondered if I was capable.
I love this question. It never comes with a straight answer. I wonder, should I talk about where each child is subject-wise because that for sure puts them in a variety of grades. This is one of my favorite things about homeschooling. Nowhere else in life are we boxed in with such age-specific parameters. I love that learning at home allows for advancement or slowing down of learning to a pace that is comfortable for each child.
This always seems to be someone’s concern. I guess they feel that school is really the main source of preparation for kids to enter “the real world”. I love looking at all the athletes, entrepreneurs, inventors, and other highly competitive people who were homeschooled. The first time I discovered how many influential people in society had been homeschooled, it all started making sense.
I love a little sarcasm. Prior to homeschooling, I was guilty of the notion that homeschooled kids would miss out on socialization. I know embarrassing, but still, it is one of the most common remarks people make about homeschooling. I realized after being around more homeschooled children that they in fact have some of the strongest social skills.
Children in the school system tend to spend most of their day with other students their age. They learn socialization within this framework. Those who are homeschooled tend to spend more time with children and adults of all ages. They learn socialization within this framework. What society deems as socially “normal” for kids is often based on this same age model. Children who are comfortable talking with adults and interacting with those younger and older than them are seen as “unusual”, giving homeschool students the stigma of being “unsocialized”. Ironically, learning how to interact with children of all ages and adults is a better reflection of everyday life outside of traditional school walls.
While this one is not specifically about homeschooling, it applies to homeschooling! There are so many times when I’m helping the kids with their work that I have to check the answers or check the teacher’s edition to make sure that I’m teaching it according to the way their book is instructing. There’s nothing like acting like you know what you’re doing when you really don’t, but it’s even worse to get called out on it!
There’s no one way to homeschool, just like there is no one type of homeschooling mom. Despite this, there are homeschooling circles that may feel or look similar. Each year I homeschool, I realize I just don’t fit in a specific group and I’m ok with that! If you’ve been around a group of homeschooling moms that are a certain style that you don’t fit into, don’t worry, being batman in the middle of princesses is a thing to celebrate!
Food will always be our biggest expense! There’s something about being near the kitchen all the time that leads to non-stop eating. It seems like every time someone gets stuck on their work, they get up to get a snack or make tea. Despite the extra-large food budget, I love the fact that they have the time to learn how to cook and bake and enjoy delicious, homemade food.
It starts when they are young. “What food does this animal eat?” “Where does this animal live?” “Is this animal dangerous?” Questions are my favorite and I love their curiosity for everything. But man, it sure makes you realize how much you don’t know! As they get older, the questions get deeper and more complex and we spend a lot of time researching things together. Despite laughing at myself for not having answers to some of their questions, admitting that I don’t know is so good for my kids to see as well as for myself to hear!
Ok, another meme not specific to homeschooling, but as a homeschooling mom, this hits home! The amount of candid photos my little ones have taken without my knowledge in a weird bun is too many to admit to. It’s only when I’m scrolling looking for a photo that I find them and realize the true state of my hair! The messy, weird, bun is a terrible staple I’ve gotten a little too used to. I had a neighbor tell me one time that she didn’t realize that my hair was curly. That comment was a wake-up call to take the bun down and do my hair!
We have to end these memes on a note that every homeschool mom will relate with. Choosing to homeschool is a privilege that I am grateful for every day. That said, it is also the hardest balancing act I have ever had to face. Between learning, cooking, cleaning, working, and keeping my sanity, it is a miracle that we are all here and smiling each day!
I hope these homeschooling memes brought some laughter to your day! Happy Homeschooling!
